Alleged mastermind of the December 25, 2011 Madalla bombing which claimed about 43 people in Niger State, Mallam Kabir Umar Sokoto has been re-arrested by the State Security Service (SSS) on Friday.

Umar Sokoto was first arrested in the Central Business District of Abuja after the blast but he managed to escape from a police van ,which was conveying him to his residence to conduct a search.

His questionable escape led to the dismissal of Nigeria‘s former Inspector General of Police, Hafiz Ringim who was given a 24 hour ultimatum by the executive to produce the suspect or get fired.

Sokoto’s escape is reported to have been facilitated by a commisioner of police, Zakari Biu who is currently on suspension for the alleged crime.

Sokoto was later declared wanted by the police in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Olusola Amore on January 19 with a ransom of N50 Million placed on him.

28 year old Sokoto who hails from Biu in Borno state was last known to be residing at Bulletin Quaters in the Federal Capital Terrritory.
He was allegedly arrested while emerging from a Boko Haram cell in Muntum Biu ,a remote village in Taraba State on Friday morning.

He is currently being held in one of the state security’s interrogation centres in Abuja and will be transferred to the military soon.
